Back in Maine, gulls were common. Herring gulls were commonest, but there were also ring-bills, Laughing Gulls, and various winter species. Here in Utah, I’ve only seen four or five gulls in the four or five months since I arrived. All California gulls.
It’s nice to start to get to know a new gull.
Meanwhile, on my hike with Jack, I saw (and/or heard) seven bird species—and watched a little family of mule deer browse on the scrub up a mountainside.
