Well, I was wrong. Today I hiked Beech hill in a t-shirt again this year—after feeling sure that wouldn’t happen. What a lovely day. And the work I did—moving heavy boxes to a storage unit, and hauling recyclables to the dump—got me out in it a lot. I’m certainly not complainin’.
It was after all that work that I got the hike in with Jack. Lots of crows still, and an unsuspecting harrier flew right into the thick of their ongoing October convention. They began to holler and escorted it quickly away. Yellow-rumps remain, as do Savannah Sparrows. One popped up along the trail and I gave us a good look for several minutes. And the kinglet showed up again the tree where I saw it yesterday. (I like to think it was the same bird.)
One odd thing: I don’t remember seeing a gull today.
