Got in the zone at my desk today—so much so’s I blew off a plan to go out cycling on this warm, sunny, still Saturday. Toward the end of it, I recalled a weather forecast, checked the radar, and saw a big ol’ thunderstorm in the vicinity—so Jack and I up and took off.
Very still at Beech Hill under remnant sun. Tall clouds on the northern and western fringes. Distant thunder accompanied our whole Beech Hill hike, in fact, although the rain passed to the north of us. Quite a few birds, butterflies, dragonflies. Happened to spot a hummingbird hovering around a birch tree and got a shot of it perched on a twig up there.
As we were nearing the parking lot again, from across the road, against the faint rumbling thunder, I heard the call of a Barred Owl.
