Today began with bursts of rain and low-sky thunder. Thick clouds cloaked the early morning landscape. The light was dim.
By midday, the clouds had mostly dispersed, blowing swiftly along from the south or southwest. The day warmed. The sun-warmed earth dried in a hurry. But the breeze, the breezeāso gusty, blustery, that I heard few birds out there. Only listed four on my Beech Hill hike with Jack.
But that’s OK. Tonight is calmer. A huge bright moon is rising over the bay. Long-trilling crickets sing, so steady that you almost don’t hear them.
Almost.
