Ravens on the Hill

Saturday, December 22nd, 2018
Common Raven, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 22 December 2018.

Common Raven.

Muddy morn after a long stretch of rain. Maybe one or two small scraps of snow remain. Temps up to 50 degrees (F) or so. Little birds picking around in the lees of a fairly stout southeast wind—little birds other than three crows and a pair of ravens.

(I like crows a lot. I love ravens.)

Rainy Solstice

Friday, December 21st, 2018
Turkey crossing the road, Rockport, Maine, 21 December 2018.

Turkey crossing the road.

Big rains expected. Jack and I managed to hit the hill during a brief windy of slight drizzle. Five species there, each working hard to grab some energy before the big rains came. And come they did.

In fact, I’m pretty sure it’s still raining out there as I write this in late evening.

Last Day of Fall

Thursday, December 20th, 2018
Mallard (male), Rockport Harbor, Maine, 20 December 2018.

Mallard (male).

Relatively balmy today, with sun, little wind, and temps up in the 30s (F). The usual suspects on the hill (none willing to pose for photos), so I stopped by the harbor and pestered a fancy mallard.

Tomorrow it’s gonna rain and rain.
