Bronze light

Northern Harrier, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 06 December 2015.

Northern Harrier.

Another sunny, unseasonably warm weekend day. Temps in the 40s (F). Lots of people at Beech Hill.

One magical afternoon at Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 06 December 2015.

One magical afternoon.

Jack and I ended up there kinda late today, about forty-five minutes before sunset. The late-fall birds were making a last sweep of the landscape for food—woodpeckers on the trunks of trees, chickadees and nuthatches poking about in the branches, a solitary harrier cruising above the barren. Bronze light all around.

Tonight the sky is a starry one. You can feel it getting colder out there.
