Juvenile Red-eyed Vireo.

Seemed like it took forever for me and Jack to make it to Beech Hill Preserve today. And by the time we did, this sunny, mild day had gone quite cool. I saw a solitary phoebe—first one of those for a while—and a waxwing in flight. Otherwise, the birds were merely voices to me.

Pennants.

Until we were nearing the end of our hike, when I heard a faint peeping in the still-greenery along the road. We stopped. I watched. After several seconds, a vireo popped up and perched there, contemplating us (or seeming to). A young Red-eyed Vireo. The sun off behind it was headed down, and the foliage was dim and shady, but I tried for photos.

And by golly I got one.
