Before the storm

Earth and sky, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 15 February 2014.

Earth and sky.

Winter storm was a comin’, or so they said. But when Jack and I headed up Beech Hill late this gray morning, conditions were a little warmer and a lot calmer than yesterday up there. Plus, the snow was easier to contend with—we could mostly just walk on the top of that crusted-over stuff. Saw robins pulling in, heard four other species before heading up. Met a few fellow hikers up there, and one fellow dog.

Sure enough, this evening, the snow began. In fact, it’s really coming down out there at the moment.
