Blowing snow

Sunday, February 16th, 2014
Breeze, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 16 February 2014.

Breeze.

No big snowfall, after all. Here at Clam Cove, no more than four or five inches fell—and then blew around a bit. Certainly not the foot or foot and a half the forecasts promised. Didn’t mind, though, because it meant I wouldn’t need snowshoes on today’s Beech Hill hike.

But oh, what a hike! It wasn’t too cold—upper 20s (F), I’d guess—but the wind was howling up there. Saw a pair of ravens playing acrobatic games in the sky; heard a crow or two. Otherwise, I heard only the wind, also made visible by the all the blowing snow.

Things have calmed tonight. The temperature has dipped into the teens. We’re supposed to get more snow and rain midweek.

And there you have today’s weather report.
