Woke up before dawn and had breakfast going by about 6:30 or so. (I don’t believe we had any frost.) Nice to get up so early for a change—mainly, because it got me writing. It being Saturday, in fact, I ended up writing most of the day.
Did take a mid-afternoon break, though, to hike Beech Hill with dog. Gray and cool and windy up there, but not too lonesome: quite a few other people decided it was a good day to hike. Peak fall color is history, but a few birds are still moving through, including a yellow-rumped warblers still. Only counted six species, the most noteworthy of which was a dark-eyed junco that nearly flew into us on the roadside section of trail.
Crows still assembling on the southern slope. A pretty beautiful, overcast day.
