Yellow-rumped warbler.

Spent all day inside, doing work both mental and physical. By mid-afternoon, I couldn’t take it anymore—so Jack and I went for a hike.

Wild turkeys.

Quite a few people at Beech Hill today, despite the sort of chilly overcast. The air was still, though, and yellow-rumps were (still) everywhere. Must’ve been another couple hundred up there this afternoon. What an abundant species, the yellow-rumped warbler—how successfully turning available food into energy. So many must nest north of here, what with all the ‘rumps we get en route south this time of year.

We also get a few other species, too, of course. At Beech Hill, I mean. Including flickers, ruby-crowned kinglets, and wild turkeys. I heard somewhere that fall turkey season starts soon—if it hasn’t already.
