This hazy-sun morning was brimming with song when Jack and I stepped out first thing: cardinal, robin, song sparrow, blue jay, titmouse, house finch, chickadee, crow. And at Beech Hill this afternoon, more new sounds, including singing junco and FOY fox sparrow. Deep summer might have the most diversity, but at this time of year—when on the same day you can have sun warming your cheeks and snow flurries chilling your neck—the birdsong seems somehow fuller of hope and joy.
