American Crow, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 17 January 2016.

American Crow.

Twenties (F), calm, bright, birdy. About six inches of fresh snow lying around. Took Jack to the hill a bit early again today—late morning—and had a lovely hike.

Halo, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 17 January 2016.

Halo.

Crossed paths with only a few other hikers. (I’m guess a lot of folks were skiing at the Snow Bowl for the first time this winter.) Tried out my new GoPro (thanks, Sarah). Strapped it to my hat. Worked pretty well. Might start a YouTube channel, who knows?

Got home and couldn’t find my phone. Searched the truck, no dice. Returned to the hill in a bit of a panic, gave one swipe with my boot in the snow alongside where I’d parked—and there it was.

Whew.

Bird Report is a (sometimes intermittent) record of the birds I encounter while hiking, see while driving, or spy outside my window. —Brian Willson
