Blue rain

Monday, November 17th, 2014
Spruce, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 17 November 2014.

Spruce.

Today was a blue and rainy day. No metaphor. Literally.

Oh, it started a little frosty, with “ice pellets” coming down amid a wet flake or two. Crows populated the bare crown of a big tree in Rockland at midday, as light rain descended from a dim blue sky. Mists and fog rose and hung and lingered. It was a busy day for me—didn’t make it up the hill with dog until late in it.

Saw two bird species: a lot of robins and one sparrow.

Got pretty wet. Didn’t mind.

Flickers and a harrier

Gray Ghost (Northern Harrier), Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 06 November 2014.

Gray Ghost (Northern Harrier).

Such a busy day: loads of work, no lunch, hike quick with Jack, home late. Fruitful but tiring.

American crow, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 06 November 2014.

American crow.

On our expedited Beech Hill hike, I counted seven flickers bouncing around the slopes and a single male harrier floating low above them. Heard and spied a few other species, but nothing outlandishly noteworthy.

Although I did like the look of a posing crow.
