Veeries

Tuesday, May 14th, 2019
Veery, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 14 May 2019.
Veery.

I love Veeries, those plain, coppery thrushes whose song sounds to me like woodland waterfalls. Heard my first yesterday, saw my first (and second) this morning in a chilly drizzle. And I do mean chilly—didn’t get into the 40s (F) today, I’m pretty sure.

Tomorrow will be brighter and more springlike. But I’ve love this day for its delivery of a glimpse of a Veery or two.
