Gulls are common year-round hereabouts. Although we get a few northern species at this time of year, I haven’t yet visited where they tend to hang out. But year-round we have Ring-billed Gulls, Great Black-backed Gulls and—our commonest resident species—Herring Gulls.
They tend to get a bad rap, Herring Gulls. “Rats with wings,” and whatnot. (Which isn’t very nice to rats, either.) But you can’t say they’re not survivors.
I have to say I kind of like ’em.
