Got cold overnight. Freezing cold. Wasn’t far above freezing when I awoke this morning. And a glance out back showed a constant, lazy fall of yellow maple leaves from the trees out back. The deck was covered with leaves, and the stairs, and my pickup. Seemed the maples let loose of just about all they’re leaves this morning.
Got to Beech Hill in early afternoon. One other car there, not a lot of birds. Only three species on my list, in fact, until we’d come all the way back to the parking lot. That’s when I heard chickadees, heard (and saw) a couple of nuthatches, heard (and saw) a Brown Creeper.
What a lovely, sunny cold day—one with a wintry nip in the air.
