My Beech Hill visit with Jack this morning was brisk and bright and breezy. Met a few friends up there among the many who were drawn to hike. Birds were lurking in the fringes—other than a handful of Yellow-rumped Warblers I spied chasing each other in the trees over toward the wooded trail.
Then, returning down the sloping straightaway, we encountered a large bird flying directly toward us not three feet above the trail. A turkey hen—or a youngster. About forty feet away it veered off into a clump of brush. A crazy surprise.
This afternoon I spent writing at my desk. Nice to have some time for that for a change.
