Today was supposed to be overcast, and for the most part it was. I didn’t expect it to rain, though—had already donned my cycling outfit when I looked out to see the damp pavement. So I didn’t ride. But it passed quickly, and soon dog and I were hiking a damp hill.
Secretive summer birds. Jays hammering at acorns. A solitary pewee singing. Waxwings all over the place. Catbirds watching out for their young.
Also berries, lots of ’em. Blueberries still, and raspberries, and sweet, juicy blackberries—my favorite.
