Busy Sunday. No desk work at all, but I’d run out of cat food, so I made a quick run to the grocery store before noon. Clouds loomed, interspersed by a little blue. Not much wind. Decided to ride my bicycle in early afternoon.
Did that. Was a nice, long ride.
Then Jack and I took kind of an early (relative to recent ones) Beech Hill hike. Right away we met a pair of birders—and, I might add, dog-lovers—with whom we spent quite a while following warblers near the parking lot. (This, after watching a neighborhood cat catch a chipmunk.) Watched a little family of chestnut-sided warblers, a young black-throated green, what appeared to be another female Blackburnian. Also chickadees, titmice, vireos, catbirds, and a towhee.
Afternoon was sunnier. Toward the summit, we came upon more waxwings hunting flies. Also sparrows. Quite a few human hikers, as well.
And dragonflies.
And crickets.
On our return home, I mowed the lawn.
