Gusty day

Northern harrier, Beech Hill, Rockport, Maine, 22 October 2012.

Northern harrier.

It seems we’re on a streak of lucky weather. Sun all day today, a little cool (50s (F)), pretty windy—but still. I worked, did errands, and made time for a bracing bike ride, complete with long stretches of working to outthink the swirling, gusty winds. Kept my hands on the handlebars, that’s for sure.

Then dog and I took a hike up the wind-combed slope of Beech Hill. Crows were out, a flicker flew by—and also a harrier, which actually stopped to hover for a moment somehow. No yellow-rumps for the second day; they’re long gone, is my belief. No junco on the curve of the trail where one’s been hanging out lately. Lovely, ruddy scenery with splashes of red and yellow.

Did see a little flock of juncos back down on the road. And a robin. And in the sky, a daytime half-moon.
