February gray

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2016
Birch, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 23 February 2016.

Birch.

The day began sunny and upper-20s (F) with birdsong all over the place. House Finch, Mourning Dove, American Goldfinch—crows making a ruckus. By midday an overcast began to move over, and by the time Jack and I got to Beech Hill it was mostly gray.

But calm enough, and the ground—the air being below freezing—was solid enough that we didn’t get too muddy. Not that mud would’ve stopped us, of course. Small favors, though.

Tonight, Jupiter is cozying up against moon.

Cloudlessness

Monday, February 22nd, 2016
Afternoon trail, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 22 February 2016.

Afternoon trail.

Woke up. Got out of bed. Looked out the window—sunny day. Took a shower. Observed an outside temperature of 27 degrees (F). Ate breakfast. Did some desk work. Took a phone call. Sneezed a little. Felt a bit light-headed—but less so than yesterday. I think.

Went for a hike with dog. Saw quite a few people at Beech Hill Preserve.

No clouds though. I saw no clouds that I recall. Nor even cloud illusions.

American crow, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 21 February 2016.

American crow.

Sneezing like crazy. Runny nose. Intermittently drifting off. My cold has moved into my head.

But I still managed to get some desk work done, managed to take a quick muddy hike with dog, managed keep a bird list, managed to watch a little Downton Abbey, managed to write these here sentences.

Welp. Off to bed with me.
