Lovely, breezy, muddy

House Sparrow, Inner Harbor, Camden, Maine, 02 February 2016.

House Sparrow.

Dawn came a little earlier this morning, and the sun angled up over the ocean and out from behind a blanket of clouds. Warm still, albeit cooler than yesterday. Little birds around the back yard.

Mucky trail, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 02 February 2016.

Mucky trail.

Got a bunch of desk work done, then took a late lunch break in early afternoon. Good hike; lovely, breezy, muddy hill. Not many birds up there, but a sizable flock of House Sparrows in the bushes down toward Camden Harbor—right by an empty parking spot. So I pulled over and snapped a few photos.

Jack got two or three biscuits from a fellow Beech Hill hiker and one at the bank. I ate a handful of almonds on our return.

February thaw

Monday, February 1st, 2016
Red-tailed Hawk, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 01 February 2016.

Red-tailed Hawk.

Woke up warm beneath the covers. No sound of the furnace coming on. When I checked the temperature, I saw that it was 38 degrees (F). A February thaw.

Decided to have an early hike again with Jack—an early, muddy hike. Wet and luscious. Saw a soaring red-tail.

Back home in afternoon, the temperature rose into the mid-50s (at least—maybe higher).

Crazy, crazy winter. (That sounds familiar. Have I said it before?)
