December remnants

Black-eyed Susans, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 04 December 2015.

Black-eyed Susans.

Took a quick midday hike with dog. Was looking forward to some sun—the morning was clear and bright, and my aging superzoom doesn’t do well in low-light situations—but clouds moved over right before we arrived. Still, I managed a decent shot of the remnants of black-eyed susans come December.

Raw hike

Down through the birches, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 03 December 2015.

Down through the birches.

Not much to report from my Beech Hill hike with Jack today—no birds, anyway—but the hike was good, brisk, windy, wet, raw. A riotous experience for my senses. (And Jack’s, too, I imagine.)

Here’s a little video.

No birds seen or heard on the hill today.

Muddy, drizzly day

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2015
Oak, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 02 December 2015.

Oak.

Drizzly, misty rain all day. Fog atop Beech Hill.

Beech Hill blues, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 02 December 2015.

Beech Hill blues.

I took the cat to the vet in the morning. The dog went along for the ride. In afternoon, in a very light rain, Jack and I slogged through the mud of the trail. I saw two birds and heard two more.

Some might describe it as “dreary”—but I don’t at all mind a muddy, drizzly day.

Beech Hill List
Beginning at 2:15 p.m., I hiked the open trail.

1. Black-capped Chickadee
2. Downy Woodpecker
3. Yellow-rumped Warbler
4. American Tree Sparrow
