Christmas waxwings

Thursday, December 25th, 2014
Bohemian Waxwing, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 25 December 2014.

Bohemian Waxwing.

Christmas Day began overcast, drippy, and warm—but by mid-afternoon the sky had lightened, and soon the clouds fled entirely. A brilliantly sunny afternoon. Jack and I took quick advantage.

Many other folks did, too, it being a holiday. We saw perhaps thirty humans and a half-dozen dogs at Beech Hill Preserve.

And a handful of Christmas waxwings.

Waterfowl weather

Spruce, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 24 December 2014.

Spruce.

Foggy, drippy, drizzly, warm. Pretty warm, anyway—maybe 20 degrees (F) warmer than usual for this time of year. Had quite a muddy hike with dog. Loved it. Wore a Santa hat. Not a lot of birds up there, though.

Needles, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 24 December 2014.

Needles.

Elsewhere, however, ducks, geese, coots. Waterfowl weather, for sure.
