Warm, Windy, Wild

Saturday, November 25th, 2017
Black-capped Chickadee, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 25 November 2017.

Black-capped Chickadee.

A few years ago, winter began on 02 November, with more than a foot of wet snow. Today, the temperature reached 50 degrees (F), and the winds blew hard out of the south. Few birds on the hill—crows mostly. I did encounter a couple of chickadees, though.

Still pretty warm tonight. Warm tomorrow, too, I hear.

Survivors

Survivors, Rockport, Maine, 24 November 2017.

Survivors.

Hardly anyone at the hill today except me and Jack. Guess everyone was shopping for stuff on Black Friday. But we enjoyed the chilly hike—good exercise, sweet-smelling air, a few birds active.

Back at home, dog alerted me to a little flock of turkeys out back. Survivors.

Holiday Ornament

European Starling, Rockport, Maine, 23 November 2017.

European Starling.

I hiked the hill
as I do every morning
with my good dog Jack
on this Thanksgiving day
and socialized with
other holiday hikers
but got no photo of any bird
so at home later
when I stepped out and heard
the tumbling voices of starlings
I turned my camera
across the road and
took a picture
of a holiday ornament
