Midday

White-breasted nuthatch, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 04 December 2013.

White-breasted nuthatch.

Broke this day up with a midday hike, which makes a lot more sense if you think about it. That way I could get quite a bit done early, take a breather, then get a lot more done late. Plus, there were a few more birds at Beech Hill while we were there—and fewer humans.

Mostly little birds around the parking lot, though I heard one of the resident flickers cry. Also saw some gulls whirling in the wind down toward the water.

I also keep scanning for snowy owls and coming up empty.
