Three things stand out about today. Bird-wise, I mean (of course).
First, I heard another kinglet while out on the back deck early. Never did see it, but its voice was bright and loud. I wonder if it was the same bird that sang out there during last Saturday’s blizzard.
Second, soon after I heard the kinglet, I saw a juvenile bald eagle soaring above the hill. Wonder if it was the same juvenile I saw in very nearly the same patch of sky a week or so ago.
Third, house finches are back. To be specific, a vocal male house finch perched on the tip of a conifer across the road. I wonder if it’s the same bird that sang there nearly every day last spring. (Note: far beyond the singing finch, I spotted another little flock of finches alighting in the upper branches of a bare hardwood. Too far to ID, and they might well have been house finches, too, but I kind of thought they might be redpolls.)
Hazy up Beech Hill today. The snow was softer than yesterday, the light more diffuse and alluring.
