Brain fry

Half moon, Beech Hill, Rockport, Maine, 02 November 2011.

Half moon.

A day of appointments. I worked some before the dental appointment. I also heard the voices of house sparrows and house finches from across the road—resident birds I hadn’t heard from in a while. Saw crows and gulls. Heard a jay. No real excitement, though, birdwise.

American robin.

After the dental appointment, I had an auto-service appointment. My pickup has barely 8,000 miles on it, and yet it’s had to have two emissions devices replaced already. What’s up with that? But never mind, I sat in the waiting area and used the shop’s Wi-Fi and got a lot of writing done. IT was a cloudless, mild sort of day.

Back in the office I took a couple phone calls. Polished off the day’s tasks and high-tailed it with dog for Beech Hill.

Pulled into the parking lot a little later than yesterday. Spotted three crows flying away from the hill. The sun was setting fast, and the temperature dropping like an autumn leaf. A little wind up there. Also a chickadee, a solitary mourning dove, a few robins in migration. Looked for rafts of coots out at the lake, but there were none floating there that I could see.

Met a couple hikers coming down. The half-moon—quarter-moon?—hung high again, but not quite as high as yesterday’s.

Sunset.

We didn’t mess around much. Came right back down. The sunset was nice. My brain is kind of fried.

And there you have a pretty boring journal entry.
