Spring at Last

Monday, March 20th, 2023
Turkey Vulture, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 20 March 2023.
Turkey Vulture.

On the first day of spring, my true love (Nature) gave to me, a robin in a sumac bush. Also three woodpecker species drumming and calling, singing cardinals and chickadees and titmice, a pair of hopeful bluebirds, a nuthatch and warbler and gull—and a third-of-year Turkey Vulture.

The vulture kind of typified the day, soaring lazily as it did in the blue-blue morning sky, floating along in the leisurely wind, looking down on the rest of the birds and trees and rocks and slopes below.

To sum up this morning’s hike with dog: wonderful.

Bird Report is a (sometimes intermittent) record of the birds I encounter while hiking, see while driving, or spy outside my window. —Brian Willson
