Bluebirds persist this aging winter. But seeing as how spring’s less than two weeks away, that’s fairly normal historically. What’s hasn’t been “normal” is their persistence throughout the winter at Beech Hill (and elsewhere) for a number of years now.
I’ve observed that they like sunny, calm, not-so-cold winter days, so I wasn’t sure I’d see any this calm, nippy, overcast morning—but I did. A single bird, perched on a stem in the blueberry barren.
Chatted with several friends on the hill today, and saw my second-of-year vulture. Also heard a drumming Pileated Woodpecker.
I wonder what tomorrow might bring.
