Jays. The highlight of this morning’s late-ish hike with dog. Few other birds about on what were bright and slightly warmer conditions. No big flocks of anything. Did spy a few deer and a cottontail.
But the jays. There were three of four (a family?) hollering at each other, chattering back and forth from high perches on low trees. One in particular caught my eye: it was showing off a mouthful of nuts or acorns as evidence of being a dependable provider. Then again, what do I know.
One thing I know is that the solstice arrives in the morning, which means tomorrow is winter’s first day.
