Portrait of Ruffed Grouse.
Starting to worry a little about Ruff, the grouse. I took a look over where he hangs out as Jack and I began our hike this chilly, snow-free morning, but I didn’t see him. Moments later, as I was photographing ice patterns, I noticed Jack had gone still. Turns out he was staring at Ruff, who was poking about maybe ten feet away.

And he looked like he wanted to follow us again—so we hurried up the trail.
Later, I got a look at a comely female bluebird.
But I’m still sortat worried about the too-tame grouse.
Beginning at 9:15 a.m., I hiked the open trail.
