Seems like I’ve heard a lot more chimpunk chips the past couple-three weeks than I can remember. Every day I hear a couple or three—and Jack and I both catch sight of them regularly. I didn’t mention it at the time, but I’m pretty sure I ran over one with my truck a few days ago. I was going slow. It dashed into my path. I hate roadkill. There’s bound to be a solution.
Chilly day. I felt kind of cold, looked at the indoor thermometer, and saw a temp in the low-60s (F). Took that as a cue to close a few windows. Then, at my desk, I heard the sound of the wind in the trees, remembered that I’d closed the windows, then peered around to see the side door open about a foot. Jack might have mentioned.
We took another late hike, dog and I. Yellow-rumps about, and a towhee down by the Beech Hill parking lot. Also a robin.
And, of course, crows. The crows of October.
