Got chilly again today—and windy. For some reason, I decided to hike the wooded Beech Hill trail. Probably thinking there’d be less wind in the trees, and perhaps more birds.
There was less wind, but it didn’t really matter, because the two-foot snow pack had thawed to the point of being infirm, so before long I’d worked up quite a sweat just post-holing, foot after foot, up the hill. But there were not any birds that I could hear or see.
Up t0p, though, I saw two yellow-rumps and a female harrier. Also ran into my friend Mark, and had a nice long chat. Traipsed all over that hill today. Spent two and a half hours up there.
Tonight a full moon hangs high. No woodcocks yet—but soon.
