Dreams of timberdoodles

Robin eye, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 24 March 2015.

Robin eye.

This evening when I stepped out with dog for a minute, I smelled and felt the pending return of the American Woodcock. I can almost hear them now, twittering wings scoping out wet spots between the piles of snow, their buzzy ageless calls of peent! just around the corner.

Here on the 44th parellel, they are, for me, the things that signal spring.
