Brutal

Thursday, January 24th, 2013
White-breasted nuthatch, Beech Hill, Rockport, Maine, 24 January 2013.

White-breasted nuthatch.

I thought yesterday’s Beech Hill hike would be Jack’s and my coldest trek up there for a while, but I was wrong. Today’s hike was pretty brutal—mostly because of the wind. The temperature might even have been a few degrees warmer (maybe 8 or 10 degrees (F)), but the wind and remnant overcast seemed to make things a lot less summery. For me at least: Jack seemed pretty OK with it.

Chickadees and nuthatches down at the parking lot. Hardy little guys. And that was it, bird-wise.

Tonight the wind is still whipping out there. Temps just north of zero. Supposed to be a tad warmer tomorrow, though—or should I say less cold.
