Every day is full of breaths of sweet air, but some days are more forgettable than others. This one—the second chilly, rainy day in a row—was forgettable. Worked all day as it rained outside. Turned on the heat, even, for the first time in weeks. Then, in late afternoon, the rain appeared to let up a bit just in time for a quick hike with Jack.
No rain as we emerged from the pickup at the wooded trailhead. After a minute or two, though, the rain came again. Long story short: it rained the whole time we hiked, then stopped when we got back to the parking lot.
Heard quite a few bird species but saw only two: a pair of ravens and a massive turkey that took flight ahead of us. My hiking shoes—still wet from yesterday—got another good soaking, as did my jeans legs. Unlike yesterday, I didn’t wear rain gear, so I spent most of our time up just trying to keep my camera dry. Then, as we’d about finished our quick hike, I slipped in mud and went down.
No mosquitos, though, and we did manage to work up a decent sweat.
All’s well that ends well, I suppose.
