Cold blow

Weed line, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 08 February 2016.

Weed line.

Gray early, and before long snow. Fine flakes, wind-whipped. Got a lot of desk work done, then looked up and saw heavier snow out there, so I went for a hike with dog.

Cold, quick hike. Heard a chickadee—and that was it, bird-wise. It being in the teens (F), with a stout north wind, I mostly heard the sound of fast-moving air and the crunch of my footfalls as we hurried up and down. Quickest hike in a while.

A cold blow adobe acrobat x download. There is no bad weather, though.

Good day

Sunday, February 7th, 2016
Well trodden, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 07 February 2016.

Well trodden.

A calm, sunny early morning with temperatures right around freezing. Had breakfast, washed the breakfast dishes, took off for a hike. No snowshoes this time. Figured the trail we blazed yesterday morning had been packed down pretty well since then. It was.

Nobody there when we arrived at mid-morning—which seemed a little crazy, considering how lovely the weather was. But Jack and I don’t mind. Bright, bright snow. Fresh air. Few birds up there.

More birds elsewhere today, though—among them a singing titmouse at Megunticook Market and a calling Red-bellied Woodpecker at home.

Worked most of the rest of the day. Did laundry. Vacuumed. Played with my dog.

Good day.

Finally, winter

Saturday, February 6th, 2016
Birdhouses, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 06 February 2016.

Birdhouses.

A brilliant, snow-covered morning. Temperature of about 20 (F) first thing, but rising up toward freezing as the day progressed. I swept off the truck, scraped ice from the windows, took Jack and my snowshoes to Beech Hill.

I was the first to make a snowshoe track, although a cantankerous fellow with a loose-running dog had made an attempt without snowshoes. When I informed him of the leash rule, he told me he didn’t agree with it—although he didn’t sound very philosophical when he said that. Takes all kinds, I guess.

Lovely snowshoe, though. Few birds, many photos, a few other hikers (even some picnickers) heading up as we returned to the truck.

Tonight is starry and warmish. Finally, winter.
