Dud

Saturday, February 11th, 2012
Beech Nut, Beech Hill, Rockport, Maine, 11 February 2012.

Beech Nut.

As forecast, it snowed—barely. Got some tiny flakes early, when the temperature was warm enough to melt them; later, the temperature dipped, and maybe a half-inch accumulated. Still, the weather seemed appropriate for the first day of the U.S. National Toboggan Championships at the Snow Bowl in Camden.

Fake spring

House finch, Glen Cove, Rockport, Maine, 09 February 2012.

House finch.

Another sunny morning turned into another sunny day. Crows were active, and a house finch sang ebulliently from across the road. Starlings burbled from the trees above the post office in town. In fact, the skaters at Chickawaukie Lake seemed oddly out of place. Why am I imagining a big ol’ April blizzard?

For a little while at evening, I watched Jupiter’s slow chase after Venus across the twilit sky.
