Hardy Birds

Thursday, March 22nd, 2018
American Robin, Route 1, Clam Cove, Rockport, Maine, 22 March 2018.

American Robin.

It was blowing and snowing when first I looked out the windows this morning. Not as heavy as it might’ve been, but a drifty, hard-won snowfall out there. Since I had a (routine) doctor’s appointment, I put off my hike with Jack until afternoon, when the snow had let up some. The wind hadn’t, however.

Only heard birds on the hill—but on the way home, I pulled over to the guard rail on Route 1 and took photos of a robin dining on sumac drupes. Robins are hardy birds.

Bird Report is a (sometimes intermittent) record of the birds I encounter while hiking, see while driving, or spy outside my window. —Brian Willson
