How to Photograph a Warbler

Friday, October 27th, 2017
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 27 October 2017.

Yellow-rumped Warbler.

First, find a warbler—
or, better still, a flock.
Then walk slowly to a place
where the sun is between you
and the flock of warblers.

Then just stand there
for as long as it takes
for one of the birds
to tee up on a branch nearby
and pose for a portrait.

Bird Report is a (sometimes intermittent) record of the birds I encounter while hiking, see while driving, or spy outside my window. —Brian Willson
