Almost eerie

Friday, December 11th, 2015
Veiled, near Mt Battie, Camden, Maine, 11 December 2015.

Veiled.

A veiled, shrouded, warm, still morning. First thing, I could hear brook out back gurgling, but no birds. The temperature climbed nearly to 50 (F). A crazy December so far—thanks in part to Earth’s remarkably rapidly changing climate.

O sole mio—over Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 11 December 2015.

O sole mio.

Got a lot of work done, then left with dog to take care of some errands. And have a hike.

Nobody at Beech Hill when we got there. Not many birds, either. Warm, damp, muddy, almost eerie. We both kind of loved it up. Met several fellow hikers (along three dogs, one leashed and two loose) coming down.

The sun kept trying to make an appearance but didn’t quite—and then it got dark a little earlier than yesterday. Only a week or two until the shortest photoperiod.

Bird Report is a (sometimes intermittent) record of the birds I encounter while hiking, see while driving, or spy outside my window. —Brian Willson
