Most cloudy today, but a bit milder—with a high temperature moving just above freezing, Great icicles have formed on my back roof, and the towering piles of plowed snow are settling slightly. I heard crows hollering at something this morning and dashed out with my camera but saw no hawk or owl or raven or fox—just crows perched together on bare limbs in a sudden flurry of snow.
Beech Hill was easier to hike today, what with a nicely tramped snowshoe trail—tramped since yesterday from gate to summit by at least one other person—although there was a little more wind. Jack and I noticed the track of a coyote or something. It joined the main trail about half-way to the summit, then continued on down the wooded trail. Up at Beech Nut, the evening sun glowed a lovely orange behind the gray.
Heard a flicker or two, saw a crow.
The Christmas Count is Saturday. We might get some rain in the days to come.
