Last Gasp?

Thursday, March 30th, 2017
Black-capped Chickadee, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 30 March 2017.

Black-capped Chickadee.

A degree or two below freezing first thing—cold enough to walk on crusts of snow without breaking through (much). Cardinals and chickadees singing, and a calling Snow Bunting flew over. Fitting, I suppose, since we’re told to expect a “plowable” snowfall Saturday.

I should know better than to keep predicting winter’s last gasp.

Bird Report is a (sometimes intermittent) record of the birds I encounter while hiking, see while driving, or spy outside my window. —Brian Willson
