Blue late afternoon

Friday, December 18th, 2015
Penobscot Bay, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 18 December 2015.

Penobscot Bay.

Still warm—like, 40s (F) warm. Still wet. Still overcast. From my desk, I watched a little family of goldfinches picking around in a few wrinkled leaves or seed clusters still clinging to a hardwood out back.

Took a late hike with dog. Only a couple cars up there. Three people and a dog—a big, angry dog that lunged at his leash and frustrated his owners and convinced Jack and I to go off-trail rather than get anywhere near that big ol’ boy. A nice blue late afternoon. Not many birds, though.

Supposed to get colder and windier tomorrow for the 2015 Christmas Bird Count.

Bird Report is a (sometimes intermittent) record of the birds I encounter while hiking, see while driving, or spy outside my window. —Brian Willson
