The wind picked up overnight. Dawn brought gray skies and drizzle. I heard the cardinal, I heard crows.
My dog arrived today—an Australian cattle dog mix, a rescue, my first dog in twelve years—and so I spent the day in a fog of distraction. But thankfully, he requires exercise, and Beech Hill (as always) beckoned. We headed there in late morning, seemingly earlier thanks to DST.
Wind-whipped drizzle. Fast moving dog. Chickadees calling from the hardwoods. Robins again in the sumac. I usually stop below the summit, but Jack wanted to keep going, so we continued quickly to the top. Windy. Wet. Cold. Misty views of the Owls Head Light and the islands. You could see the whitecaps in the bay.
Small scraps of snow remain in the shady places. One of these looked like a smiley face, so I took a photo—smiling inside at the proximity of spring, at the certainty of change.
