Beech Nut, Beech Hill, Rockport, Maine, 17 January 2013.

Beech Nut.

The day began with a temperature a little above freezing, but it ended with temperatures headed down. In between times, I did some fruitful work and hiked Beech Hill with two spry Australian cattle dogs. Neither heard nor saw any birds up there, but on our way out, along Beech Hill Road, I spotted a couple cardinals winging their way across the road. That counts, I figure.

This morning, in all the sun-lit liquidity, I saw a bunch of birds within just a couple minutes, at least. Tonight we’re supposed to get down into the single digits (F).
