Fruitful day

Tuesday, November 6th, 2012

Larches, Beech Hill, Rockport, Maine 06 November 2012.

Larches.

Funny to say this in November, but it was a long and fruitful day. Everything needing done got done. Wrote a little nature piece, had my traditional brisk bike ride to the Town Office to vote, took a mess of photos I’ve been planning to take for a good long while now, wrote a bunch of words. Oh, and the right guy got (re)elected president (in my humble opinion).

The cycling was good, if nippy—the temps didn’t get out of the 30s (F), I’m pretty sure, although there wasn’t much wind. Sun all over the place, a few resident birds out. And dog and I hit Beech Hill early for the photo shoot (cover image for a book I wrote, many thanks to a new friend), where the sun angled slowly down to a serenade of chickadees, kinglets, titmice, nuthatches, and jays.

Our actual hike up and back was quick, but pretty spectacular. And I took a photo of a little stand of larch trees.

Late last night I stepped outside and heard the sound of leaves falling, one by one, in the chilly stillness, and this morning new-fallen leaves littered the back deck I’d swept a few days ago.

Late tonight, more of the same—but with a little breeze.
