Recovering

Wednesday, December 19th, 2012
Rock pile, Beech Hill, Rockport, Maine, 19 December 2012.

Rock pile.

Got a lot done today. In part because I’m finally recovering from a nasty cold; in part because I actually planned ahead for a change. While doing errands, I happened to catch sight of several town birds. And then, at Beech Hill with Jack this afternoon, as a chill, wind-whipped snow spattered us, I heard some chickadees.

Tonight, the stars made a brief appearance. And then came another little covering of powdered snow.

Less miserable

Tuesday, December 18th, 2012
Oak, Beech Hill, Rockport, Maine, 18 December 2012.

Oak.

“Miserable” is a word that, to me, describes the feeling I get when I’ve had a cold for a while and my nose is runny and my nasal passages hurt and there’s nothing I can do about it but take a hike up a hill where chill, wind-whipped drizzle lashes my face and blurs my eyes and dampens my camera. Less miserable, surely, than I can imagine being. Especially when I consider that a good dog is up there hiking with me and a couple little birds are flitting about the branches of the dripping trees.

Sneezer

Monday, December 17th, 2012
At Beech Nut, Beech Hill, Rockport, Maine, 17 December 2012.

At Beech Nut.

Snow began last night and continued overnight and a little bit today, leaving us with a couple-three inches. Today I sneezed perhaps more than I ever had in one day before. I suppose I should count myself as lucky.

Hiked Beech Hill with jack. It was nice to hear a brown creeper.
